And the "Heat" Goes On at The Waverly Inn!
For the past week, I have been in the basement of The Waverly Inn, pressing a button! At times I have felt like one of the Goblins of Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings, coming up from the mines long enough to hunt for food and then returning to the dark to perform a mindless and senseless task.
But, blessed is he who has an industrial boilerman as a best friend! Dale, my Utah skiing partner just happens to make a living repairing commercial boilers and he literally saved my butt this week. With the help of a cell phone, digital camera, the internet, and Dales wife Jeannie (only one of which Dale knows anything about...you got it, the cell phone) this picture was sent to him and he correctly diagnosed our problem as a short in the flame rod and voila, the HEAT was ON at The Waverly and John was released from the dungeon.
About the only person who was displeased with all of this was my wife Diane who, for the first full week since we were married 34 years ago, knew exactly where I was 24 hours a day! I am once again free to roam Western NC at will.
The moral of the story is: it's important to have at least one best friend and one great wife! I am indeed a fortunate man to have both in my life.
