18th Annual Garden Jubilee Festival, Hendersonville

My favorite festival, the Garden Jubilee Festival, is coming to Hendersonville again on Memorial Day weekend. Plants of all sizes, shapes and types are along the sidewalks on Main Street. There are always a lot of specialty growers with unique plants and Lowe’s brings in product representatives to answer any questions you might have. My two favorite vendors have basic and unusual herbs that I plant in my kitchen garden. I just finished cleaning that garden and putting out fresh mulch in anticipation.

Walking among the growers on a beautiful spring day is just about as glorious as it can get. When I get down past the beautiful old courthouse there is usually a free clinic in the Lowe’s lawn and garden tent at the Visitor’s Information Center. Bill Slack, a gardening specialist with Southern Living Magazine, will be giving free clinics starting at 11am on Saturday this year. He will also be out there on Sunday afternoon. There will also be product representatives giving informative talks also.

Last year, when I was done buying all my herbs and a beautiful perennial basket, I came back up the other side of the street and found a man selling Greek gyros and it was delicious. I wandered through seller’s tents that had lawn ornaments of every shape and variety after my lamb gyro adventure. It’s not all plants, its yard art and food too! Wandering through the vendor booths was fun and relaxing.

Whether your passion is for flowering plants, tumbling backyard waterfalls, yard art, or food this festival is great fun for everyone. So come to Hendersonville May 28 - 29 and have a great time in downtown.

We hope we've given you yet another reason to visit the 1898 Waverly Inn in Hendersonville, NC very soon!
